HOW TO PLAY

Objective

Your objective is to rearrange the tiles on the grid and form a complete and perfect gradient across the board.

There's no winning or losing - just aim for the best time in the fewest moves.

Locked corners

Two opposite corners are locked in place, and define the start and end colours of the finished gradient.

Drag to swap

Drag any tile onto another to swap their two positions. Keep going until every colour sits where it belongs.

Tap to swap

Prefer tapping? Tap a tile to select it, then tap another to swap them. Tap it again to deselect.

Successful placement

A successfully placed tile will pulse and chime, and a dot appears to show it's correctly positioned.

Tip: corners first

Work from the corners inwards. The edges blend between two known colours, so they're easiest to read; fill the middle once the borders are set.

The short version

Huedle is a free daily colour puzzle. You can play the whole game without an account and without telling us who you are. We keep the small amount of data needed to save your progress, rank scores on the leaderboards, and understand roughly how the game is being used. We don't sell your data, we don't run advertising, and we don't track you across other websites.

Who we are

Huedle is made by NewBlankPage. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean NewBlankPage as the operator of the game. If you have any questions about your data, contact us at hello@newblankpage.co.uk.

What we collect

  • A device identifier.When you first play, your browser generates a random ID and stores it on your device. It lets us save your progress and attribute your scores without you creating an account. It isn't linked to your real identity unless you choose to sign in.
  • A display name (optional). If you set a username, it is shown publicly next to your scores on the leaderboards.
  • Your game results. Which puzzle you played, your completion time, number of moves, and when you finished. Completed results may appear on the public leaderboards.
  • Google sign-in (optional).If you choose to link a Google account so your progress follows you across devices, we store your email address and a Google account identifier. That's all we take from Google — we never see your password, and we don't access your contacts, Drive, or anything else.
  • Feedback. Anything you type into the feedback form, so we can read it and improve the game.
  • Basic usage analytics.We use Vercel Analytics to see aggregate figures like how many people visit and which pages they open. It is privacy-friendly: it doesn't use tracking cookies and doesn't follow you across other sites.
  • On-device preferences.Your theme choice and in-progress game are stored locally in your browser. These stay on your device and aren't sent to us.

How we use it

We use this data to run the game: to save and restore your progress, rank scores on the leaderboards, let you carry your account between devices when you sign in, respond to feedback, and understand how the game is used so we can improve it. We don't use it for advertising or profiling, and we don't sell or rent it to anyone.

Legal basis (for players in the UK & EU)

Where UK/EU data protection law applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in operating and improving a free game for most processing (running the leaderboards, basic analytics), and on your consent where you actively choose to act — for example when you link a Google account or submit feedback. You can withdraw that consent at any time by unlinking your account or contacting us.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data. We rely on a few service providers who process it on our behalf so the game can run:
  • Vercel — hosts the game and provides the aggregate analytics.
  • Our database provider — stores accounts, scores, and feedback.
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google, and only to authenticate you.
Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.

Cookies & local storage

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. If you sign in, we set a session cookie so you stay logged in. We also store a few things in your browser's local storage — your device ID, theme, and game progress — which are essential for the game to work.

How long we keep it

We keep your scores and account details for as long as you keep playing, so your history and leaderboard placements remain. If you ask us to delete your data, or you delete your account, we remove your personal data. Aggregate analytics that can't identify you may be retained.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If you signed in with Google, you can also simply unlink the account. To make a request, email hello@newblankpage.co.uk. If you're in the UK or EU and you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Children

Huedle isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Significant changes may also be announced in the game's What's New notes.
